One person is hospitalized after police respond to the L'Enfant Plaza incident.
L'Enfant Plaza, a significant office and transit hub in downtown Washington, D.C., was the scene of an incident that the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) responded to on Friday afternoon.
Following the event, which sparked a quick emergency reaction in the neighborhood, authorities reported that one individual was taken to a nearby hospital. The condition of the person has not yet been disclosed.
Shortly after the information was received, police and emergency medical personnel were spotted close to the square. While first responders evaluated the situation, officers briefly blocked access to some areas of the region.
Officials have not confirmed whether foul play was involved in the incident, and as of Friday night, there are still little information available.
According to an MPD representative, "the situation is under control" and the public is not in danger.
As the inquiry progresses, local employees and commuters were warned to anticipate slight delays and heightened police presence.
According to authorities, more details will be made public as they become available.
