Toronto Police Investigate College Station Stabbing Near Yonge and College: One Hospitalized
A large police reaction and a brief interruption of subway service at College Station were caused by a stabbing incident that occurred Wednesday evening near Yonge and College Streets and left one person critically injured. The incident is being investigated by Toronto Police.
Shortly after 6:30 p.m., police first heard reports of gunshots in the College Park neighborhood. Officers found no signs of gunfire when they got to the location, though. Rather, they found a victim of stabbing on Line 1 of the TTC at College Station on the platform level.
Investigators say the victim fled into the station after being stabbed, and it seems the stabbing happened off TTC grounds.
Through an emergency run, Toronto Paramedic Services took the sufferer to the hospital. According to reports, the person's condition is significant but not life-threatening.
In an update posted on X (previously Twitter), Toronto Police Operations stated, "Police are on scene investigating." "We ask that any witnesses call 52 Division at 416-808-5200. As of as now, no signs of gunshot have been found.
The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) momentarily halted service at College Station due to the ongoing police investigation.
Around 7:20 p.m., TTC officials issued the following service alert:
Due to police activity, trains are not stopping at College Station on Line 1 Yonge-University."
Until police cleared the scene, subway trains continued to travel through the area without stopping at the station.
As of Wednesday night, no arrests had been verified, and police have not disclosed any information regarding a potential suspect or motive. Officers are interviewing local witnesses and going over security footage.
Anyone with dashcam or smartphone footage from Yonge Street and College Street around the time of the stabbing, or who may have witnessed the crime, is being asked to come forward by the authorities.
While the inquiry is ongoing, locals and commuters are requested to stay away from the area.
