Cincinnati and Ohio County Mourn the Loss of Vernon Smith in Fatal Incident

 The communities in Cincinnati and Ohio County are grieving after the tragic passing of Vernon Smith, who tragically lost his life in a two-car collision on the night of November 24, 2025. The sudden loss of Vernon has left his family, friends, and those in the community in shock as they come to terms with the absence of a person who had a positive influence on numerous lives.

According to the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on the 5100 block of Milton Bear Branch Road near Dillsboro, Indiana. Vernon was driving a passenger car when it struck a combine that was coming from the opposite direction. Investigators suggest that his vehicle impacted the front tire of the combine, resulting in a devastating crash that inflected serious injuries on Vernon.

Emergency responders from Bear Branch and Rising Sun fire departments, in addition to Rising Sun EMS and the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office, quickly reached the scene of the accident. Vernon was transported to UC Medical Center, where medical staff worked diligently to save his life. Sadly, despite their best efforts, Vernon succumbed to his injuries, leaving his family and the community with deep sorrow.

There were no injuries reported for the driver of the combine, and authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. At this time, no additional details have been released, and officials are urging anyone with pertinent information to step forward to assist with the ongoing inquiry.
