Delaware County Mourns the Loss of Corporal Blake Reynolds After Tragic Incident

Delaware County, IN — The residents of Delaware County are dealing with the sorrowful loss of Corporal Blake Reynolds, a committed sheriff's deputy who sadly lost his life early Wednesday morning in an accident on Interstate 69. This event occurred near the 247 mile marker, close to Gaston, at approximately 3:45 a.m. on Wednesday, while Reynolds was assisting a motorist whose automobile had stalled and was struck by a semi-truck.

According to the report from the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Reynolds was protecting the disabled vehicle when another semi heading northward veered off course and collided with both Reynolds’ patrol car and the stranded truck. The crash caused critical injuries to Reynolds, who was taken to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the other semi also suffered injuries and was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for surgery.

Having been a member of the sheriff’s office for four years, Reynolds earned a reputation for his professionalism, leadership abilities, and steadfast commitment to serving the public. He joined the department in 2022 following his time in the Army National Guard. In June 2025, Reynolds married his wife, marking a significant transition in his life. His sudden passing is an immense loss, not only for his family but also for his colleagues and the broader community he served with such loyalty.

A Heartbreaking Loss

“Our law enforcement family and the people of Delaware County are grieving this devastating loss,” stated the sheriff’s office, conveying gratitude for the community's prayers and support during this challenging period.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Scott Keegan shared details about the incident, confirming that Reynolds had responded to reports of a semi that was partially blocking the roadway when the second semi lost control. The fatal incident occurred while he was attending to the truck driver.

Community and Statewide Tributes

The death of Corporal Reynolds has resonated throughout Delaware County and beyond. Local organizations, including the Chesterfield Police Department, Yorktown Fire Department, and Eaton Volunteer Fire Department, have expressed their sympathies. State officials, including Governor Mike Braun, described the news as “deeply saddening” and sent thoughts and prayers to Reynolds’ family and colleagues.

Reynolds’ colleagues remember him as a dedicated officer who embodied the core principles of law enforcement: courage, responsibility, and a profound commitment to his community. His absence has left a significant void within the department, yet his legacy will continue to motivate those who worked alongside him.

Investigation and Ongoing Support

The Indiana State Police are currently conducting an investigation into the accident to determine the events that led to this unfortunate occurrence. Authorities have asked for the public's patience as they work to gather all relevant information.
