Two residents of Kansas, Cheryl A. Martin and Perry A. Martin, sadly passed away in a devastating incident on I-70.

Wabaunsee County, Kansas — A tragic event on Interstate 70 has led to the deaths of two individuals from Junction City. The accident occurred on Monday at around 11:30 a.m., when a Jeep Liberty, traveling eastward, veered off the roadway into the median for reasons that remain under investigation. This vehicle collided with a culvert, overturned, and subsequently impacted a Peterbilt semi-truck that was merging onto the interstate.

Cheryl A. Martin, 63 years old, and Perry A. Martin, 65 years old, were pronounced dead at the scene. Both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the incident. The driver of the semi-trailer did not experience any injuries.

This event caused significant delays, leading to the closure of eastbound lanes of I-70 for several hours as the Kansas Highway Patrol conducted their investigation. Authorities are focused on determining why the Jeep left its intended route, although the exact cause has not yet been established.

Cheryl and Perry Martin were described by friends and neighbors as a compassionate couple, and they were well-loved in their community. Their sudden loss has brought about deep sorrow in Junction City, where they were known for their kindness and strong connections within the community.

The investigation into the cause of the accident remains ongoing. Officials continue to urge drivers to stay alert, especially when approaching high-speed roads.
