 The Newport community is mourning the shocking and untimely passing of Brittany Wendt, who tragically died on December 5, 2025, in a catastrophic car accident on Maple Street. Brittany's life came to an untimely end, leaving her loved ones, acquaintances, and all who were familiar with her enveloped in deep grief and disbelief.


At approximately 3:42 p.m., emergency responders from both the Newport Police and Newport Fire departments arrived at the scene of a severe rollover collision involving two vehicles. Despite their swift response, Brittany, who was an adult female driving a Jeep Wrangler, was pronounced dead at the crash site. Initial findings indicate that a Chevrolet Silverado pickup crossed over the centerline on Maple Street, striking Brittany’s vehicle head-on, leading to a rollover. This crash resulted in critical injuries that caused her to lose her life instantly.

The void left by Brittany's departure is profoundly felt. She represented kindness, empathy, and quiet strength—a person who ensured that everyone around her felt valued and understood. The driver of the pickup, identified as 49-year-old Dylan Galland from East Windsor, Connecticut, was found to be intoxicated at the time of the incident and has since been charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated. He is currently undergoing treatment for injuries that are not deemed life-threatening and is facing additional charges, including Negligent Homicide, with court appearances scheduled for December 8th at the 5th Circuit Court – District Division – Newport.
