Cameron Graham Stabbing Update: Deadly School Stabbing Event in Winston-Salem Identified Victim as Cameron Graham

The relatives of the 16-year-old who was tragically stabbed on Tuesday at North Forsyth High School have disclosed that his name is Cameron Graham, an unfortunate occurrence that has profoundly affected the Winston-Salem region.

The incident occurred shortly after 11 a.m., at which time the Resource Officer at the institution urgently summoned “all available personnel.” Within moments, law enforcement representatives from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and the Winston-Salem Police Department arrived at the location. The school was promptly placed on lockdown while emergency medical responders rushed to aid the injured.

During a press briefing conducted at 2 p.m., Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough Jr. from Forsyth County verified that a student had died from injuries sustained during the violent event. The victim was subsequently identified by the family as Cameron Graham. Another student was hurt, but officials have not yet shared details regarding the severity of their injuries.

Sheriff Kimbrough described the event as “heartbreaking,” urging the community to come together in support of the affected students, staff members, and families. Authorities indicated that this case is still an active and sensitive investigation, and they will refrain from releasing further details about those involved until additional inquiries are finalized.

Investigators are looking into a troubling video that has circulated on social media, which seems to show the moments just prior to the tragic altercation. The footage illustrates students gathering near a restroom, an emerging fight, a student falling, and another momentarily brandishing a knife. Officials are asking the public to refrain from sharing the video as a sign of respect for the victim and their families.

“A dark day has fallen upon our city,” remarked Winston-Salem Police Chief William H. Penn Jr., expressing disapproval of the online sharing of the video. “Please consider the damaging consequences of your actions.”

North Carolina Governor Josh Stein labeled the stabbing as “shocking and horrible,” adding, “We must persistently work towards creating a safer North Carolina.”

North Forsyth High School will be closed on Wednesday, December 10, with crisis counselors, grief support teams, and district personnel set to aid students and staff in coping with the traumatic experience. Staff members have been directed to report to the Education Building located on Bethania Station Road, while students seeking emotional assistance may visit the Cable 2 offices beginning at 8 a.m. with a parent or guardian.

On Tuesday, parents were instructed to assemble at the Joel Coliseum for efforts to reunite with students, which required identification for the release process. Superintendent Dr. Don Phipps issued a statement affirming that “violence is unacceptable in our schools” and urged the community to show support “with kindness and compassion.”

As investigators persist in gathering evidence, interviewing students, and reviewing video material, officials stress that there is currently no ongoing danger to the school or surrounding area. Further information will be provided as the investigation progresses.

The passing of 16-year-old Cameron Graham has caused deep sorrow for classmates, educators, and families throughout Forsyth County.
