Cinnabon Worker Terminated Following Racist Incident Involving Somali Pair at Bay Park Square Mall

A Cinnabon staff member at Bay Park Square mall in Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin, was dismissed after a widely shared video recorded her using racist slurs and hateful language directed at a Somali couple. The incident, which gained significant attention on X and TikTok, has ignited outrage and renewed dialogues regarding the discrimination encountered by Somali and Muslim individuals in public environments.

The footage captures the employee harshly instructing the couple to exit while frequently using the N-word, ridiculing the woman’s hijab, and openly self-identifying as racist. Despite this aggression, the couple remained composed and continued to film the episode. There is no indication in the video or from eyewitness accounts suggesting that the customers provoked the worker prior to her outburst.

Cinnabon representative Sawyer Carlson verified the termination in a statement released on Saturday. Carlson indicated that the franchise owner took prompt action upon learning about the video. “The person depicted in the video was promptly let go by the franchise owner. Their actions and words are entirely unacceptable and do not represent Cinnabon’s values in any manner,” the statement conveyed. The organization reiterated its dedication to ensuring a respectful and inviting atmosphere for every customer.

Users online have commended the couple for their restraint amid overt harassment. At the same time, other individuals voiced their outrage over such conduct in a customer service environment. Social media users also named the employee as Crystal Wilsey, which has heightened calls for accountability.

As the video continues to be circulated online, the incident has initiated more extensive conversations regarding racism, harassment, and the lived experiences of Somali and Muslim communities in daily public encounters. Many individuals hope that the prompt measures taken by the franchise will underscore that intolerance for discriminatory actions will not be tolerated.
