Henry Shore Longview, TX Obituary, Cause of Death: Freshman LeTourneau Scholar and Acclaimed Men’s Soccer Athlete, Henry Shore Has Died

 It is with great sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Henry Shore, a first-year student at LeTourneau University and a remarkable member of the men's soccer team. Pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Henry passed away over the weekend, leaving behind grieving family, friends, teammates, and the wider community. Our hearts and condolences go out to all who were close to him during this incredibly difficult time.


Raised in Longview, Texas, Henry was a vivacious and talented individual whose dedication and spirit left a profound impact on everyone he met. As a rising star in college soccer, he earned All-SCAC First Team recognition and was honored with All-Freshman status, ranking third in the SCAC with eight goals and fourth with a total of 18 points. In conference play, he scored seven goals and totaled 16 points, earning the designation of SCAC Offensive Player of the Week on October 13 after he netted four goals the previous week. Henry enjoyed an impressive run where he secured at least one point in five straight SCAC matches, and he accomplished the feat of scoring LeTourneau's first hat trick since 2019 during a 3-1 win against St. Thomas. His eight goals marked the highest tally for a freshman YellowJacket since 2005.

The qualities Henry exhibited on the soccer pitch were reflected in his personality off the field. He was appreciated for his modesty, diligent work ethic, and generosity, which made him a cherished teammate, friend, and student. His passion for soccer, along with his dedication to his studies and community involvement, showcased a young man whose impact extended well beyond athletics.

LeTourneau University will hold a campus service in partnership with the Division of Student Affairs and the Office of Spiritual Life, providing an opportunity for the community to come together for prayer, remembrance, and to honor Henry's life collectively. The university also encourages anyone who is struggling with the news of Henry's passing to seek help through the LeTourneau University Center for Counseling and other available student resources.

Though Henry Shore’s life was tragically brief, it was characterized by achievements, enthusiasm, and promise. He will be remembered as a skilled athlete, devoted student, and a bright light in the lives of those who knew him.
